The Pfaff Darning or Free Motion Foot is used for all free motion sewing: free motion embroidery, darning, free motion quilting and can also be used with the embroidery hoop unit on capable models, just use the "spring motion" or "Dynamic Spring Foot 6D" option on the machine as this foot is the same as both of those. The Pfaff Darning/Free Motion Foot is spring loaded to keep the proper pressure on the fabric when sewing and lift off the fabric as the needle rises.
